Educational Benefits and Tuition Assistance

Benefits managed through the Veterans Administration (i.e. Chapter 30, 31, 32, 33 – Post 9/11, 35, 1606, 1607)  are certified through the Registrar’s Office. Learn more about the educational benefits certification process.

Benefits managed through the Tuition Assistance Program are processed through the Student Business Services Office. To use Tuition Assistance, have your coursework approved through the appropriate military tuition assistance program (see ‘Before Applying’ for portal information). Once approved, provide your approval letter/statement to Student Business Services.

Please be aware that the Department of Defense requires that UMBC return any unearned TA funds to the department based on how much of the course you completed and that you pay a portion of those returned funds. You may owe a portion of your tuition to UMBC and a portion to your military branch. If you are using tuition assistance, you should contact your military education counselor or education services officer before dropping or withdrawing from a course.
